Pictures I hope

November 7

Left wildorado on the 5th and drove all day in rain, fog or mist. Not a real pleasant day. Ended up in Choctaw, OK and camped in a KOA. Rained heavily during the night but quit before morning. We decided to take a Zero Day and to do laundry and shopping.

I had been thinking about getting a haircut for some time and I did it. Feels better, looks better.
The rest day was good. But I am still so tired of driving. Part of it, I am sure, is the effort it takes to set this camper up and then to take it down the next day. We have decided it is time to buy something else that doesn't take so much effort.

We are now near Conway, Arkansas. Getting closer to home all the time. We are now 922 miles from home.

Nov 4

It's been a while since I last posted. Was really tired a couple of nights, and watched football last night.

Joyce had a good night at the casino. She won $28 playing the slots. We left the next morning and headed out. Stopped at Hoover Dam and looked at the new bridge. Walked out on the pedestrian walkway. Took the obligatory pictures. Then back to the car and drove across it. Nevada is on PCT and observes DST time while Arizona stays on MST time. Therefore in the summer Arizona time is the same as PDT. When the time switches and if you are in Arizona you don't set your clock back and you are on MST. Now if this confuses you, think about the traveler who is going thru these time zones this time of year. If it wasn't for cell phones keeping time you might be confused and have to ask someone what the time was. It's happened to us.

Had not intended to go to the Grand Canyon because we had been there before. Changed my mind. Stayed at Valle, AZ a few miles from the park. Went in the next day and rode the shuttle buses as well as walked along the Rim Trail for a while. The shuttle buses took us out to Hermits Rest where we had not been on our previous trip. Got off several times at the various overlooks and enjoyed the scenery. Got to see some Elk grazing along the road and got some pictures.

Got up the next morning and had a delicious breakfast at Fred's Diner in the Fred and WilmaFlintstone  campground. We stayed in a motel this time but actually camped there several years ago. Still the same, nice and friendly, people.

Ended the day in Grants, NM at a campground with I-40 on one side and the railroad tracks on the other. Needless to say, it was noisy and Joyce worried about being able to sleep. It ended up not being a problem. We both slept well.

We left there and ended up here in Wildorado, TX. We lost an hour when we crossed the border so it was late, clockwise, when we started looking for a campground. Finally decided to motel it again. We are in the Royal Inn Motel. Don't let the name fool you. Nothing royal about a motel that is $44 and appears that we are the only customers. But, the room is acceptable and there is not that much noise. If the wind keeps blowing east we may not smell the large feedlot that is about a mile east of us.

We are now headed toward home. Joyce has to make the decisions about what we visit along the way and how far we travel. That way I can't be accused of being like a horse with the bit between my teeth and heading for the barn.

That's all for tonight

Oct 31- Happy Halloween

Yesterday we spent the day exploring Zion. Had a good time. A lot of towering cliffs and interesting rocks. A lot of red rock and Navajo Sandstone. The tunnel in Zion is 1.1 miles long. Have driven thru it 3 times. With the camper once, not my idea of fun.

During the afternoon we took the shuttle bus on the scenic drive. Private cars are not allowed. On the way in there was a recorded narration about the various features we were seeing. Road the bus to the end and then walked up the trail into the Narrows. At the end of the trail you can hike further but it mostly in the Virgin River. What they call "canyoneering". On the way out we saw Rock Climbers several hundred feet above the canyon. Wish I had been able to get pictures. Got off the bus at Zion Lodge and hiked to Lower Emerald Pools. I was quite disappointed. The pools were NOT emerald colored. The might have been nice early in the day when the sky would have been reflected in the pools.

Left Zion this morning and are now at Boulder Station Casino in Las Vegas. Weather is warmer here. Thankful for that. Joyce has been playing the slots. She was up $6 for awhile but is only up a nickel at the moment. It can be cheap entertainment if you are prudent. Just holds no interest for me. I am in our room updating this and watching football.

The room is very nice and surprisingly economical. $50.38 including tax of over $15.00. Several places to eat. Great showers.

Tomorrow we will go to Flagstaff, AZ on our way to Canyon de Chelly. Trying to keep my driving days reasonable.

October 29

Moving day. Slept late so got a late start. As we drove up the mountain the snow on the peaks was gorgeous. Decided to go into to Bryce to get snow pictures. Went to Fairyland Canyon and then to Sunset  Point. Beautiful. More pictures. I try to load pictures to this Journal but don't know if any one can see them. So tonight  I will load them to flickr. The guest pass that I generated should still work.

Left Bryce and headed for Zion thru intermittent snow. Went south on 89 and the snow really picked up. Visibility was reduced but the road was clear. Just wet. Got to the park around 3:30. They measured the width of the camper to make sure we did not need an escort Thru the mile long tunnel. They have to hold up traffic so larger rigs can go through. We were OK.

Once again this park is totally different. We will explore it tomorrow. Now in a campground in Springdale ,Utah. Real tourist oriented with the usual high prices.
